2 Important Tests Of Shackles

2 Important Tests Of Shackles

Today we’re going to talk about 2 important test of shackles, tensile test and salt spray test. 1st is tensile test, this test evaluates the strength of the shackle under tension andadopts the static tensile test method, connecting the shackle to the testing equipment and gradually increasing the tensile force until the shackle fractures or undergoes significant deformation. It should be noted that the shackle tensile test is a transitional process from the maximum bearing capacity to the loose state of the test sample, rather than a breaking process, while ensuring the correct state of the shackle connection.

As you can see, the shackle is subjected to increasing tension until it ultimately breaks. The stability of the unloading process directly affects the service life and safety of the product, and is of great significance for improving product quality control and process improvement.

2nd is salt spray test, this test evaluates the shackle’s resistance to corrosion, particularly in harsh environments. Shackles are widely used everywhere, both outdoors and indoors, in dry and humid environments, which requires the surface of the shackles. The important test for detecting the surface of the shackle is the salt spray test, which is an environmental test created by the salt spray test equipment to artificially simulate the salt spray environmental conditions to assess the corrosion resistance of products or metal materials.

During the test, the shackle’s surface is inspected for signs of corrosion, such as rust or degradation. Under normal circumstances, the shackle can reach 24 hours without white rust, 48 hours without red rust. If there are higher requirements, longer periods of time, such as 72 hours, etc., it is necessary to change the surface treatment process.

Salt Spray test could ensure that shackles maintain their structural integrity and performance, even in challenging environmental conditions.

If you have any special requirements for salt spray testing, you can contact us at any time and we can discuss together.

At last, don’t forget to follow Sail Rigging for more information about shackles. Have a wonderful day!
